The Martian Acres band: Alternative-Boulder music at its best. The Acres’ songbook runs along a wide musical river. Over the past several years, we’ve picked up international song-writing awards and distinctions in areas which range from rock to country to blues to gospel.

One of our blues originals, for example, was selected by the listeners of Midnight Blues Radio (in Paris) as one of 2007's best. And late last year, the Acres’ anti-war anthem, "War (We’ve All Been Here Before)", became one of the most downloaded songs in Australia. Then, in the spring of 2008, the new Martian Acres tune "Missing You" topped the national charts in the Acoustic category for the OurStage competition (some of the folks that bring you Bonnaroo every year).

This summer, Martian Acres has been really mixing it up: playing everything from large private gigs to well-received shows at Boulder’s Rock and Soul Café, as well as the big July show for veterans at the Boulder Bandshell, to intimate acoustic coffeehouse shows.  And, as always, there has been a lot of studio work, as we edge closer and closer to that third CD.

Martian Acres has released two CDs: "Middle of the Night" (2003) and "From Waltz to War" (2006). In addition, new songs are regularly being rotated on the Martian Acres Web site at www.martianacres.com.
Although one rock critic compared the Martian Acres' un-niche-able repertoire to "running one’s I-Pod on ‘shuffle,’" there are distinctive characteristics shared by all of the songs: strong melody lines, abundant vocal harmonies, and lyrics with a lot of fizz and "ear appeal"—usually thought-provoking, sometimes politically provocative, and all too often "just plain silly."

Additional Martian Acres’ Miscellany

  • Three John Lennon Songwriting Awards in the Country and Gospel Categories (including a Gospel finalist in 2005).
  • Frequent airplay, including several songs in regular rotation on KQMT ("The Mountain"), 99.5 in Denver.
  • Two songs included in the new film "The Highway Home" (presently in the festival circuit).
  • Featured Artist recently (and very well reviewed) in the influential "RARWriter" music site out of Los Angeles: http://www.rarwriter.com/Feature_Wanebo_16.htm.

As of September, 2008, our songs are included on playlists throughout Colorado, and several other venues (even Paris . . . France, not Texas!).
